A Safe Place

Growing up, my mom worked extremely hard in order to financially provide for my small family. Now that I’m an adult, I appreciate the long hours she worked at the factory so that she could afford to buy food and clothes for my sister and me. Unfortunately, due to my mom’s work schedule, my sister and I were forced to stay at relatives’ homes after school each day. Because we stayed at so many different people’s homes, our bus driver always got confused about the location he needed to drop us off at. On this blog, I hope you will discover the benefits of leaving your kids at a safe daycare facility each day. Enjoy!

7 Questions To Ask A Daycare Provider

Blog

Choosing a daycare provider is an important decision. You want to find someone who will be loving and nurturing to your child, but also someone who is experienced and has formal training. Here are seven questions to ask a potential daycare provider to help you make the best decision for your family.

1. What formal training or education do you have in early childhood development?

This is important because you want your child to be in the care of someone who understands developmentally appropriate practices.

2. How long have you been working with children?

The longer someone has been working with children, the more experience they will have. This is important because you want your child to be in the care of someone who knows what they are doing.

3. What is your philosophy on discipline and childrearing?

This is important because you want to know that the daycare provider is on the same page as you when it comes to discipline and childrearing. You also want to make sure that the provider uses positive reinforcement rather than punishment.

4. What are the ratios of adults to children in your care?

Ratios are everything in childcare and are often mandated by the state. It is still important to ask because you want to make sure that there are enough adults to children so that each child is getting the individual attention they need.

5. How do you handle sick days and doctor's appointments for children in your care?

Everyone gets sick. You need to know if your daycare has a sick child section or if you will need to take the day off of work. Additionally, if you keep your child home with you when they are sick, you need to understand the daycare center's policy on reimbursement.

6. What are your policies for communication with parents?

You want to know how the daycare provider will communicate with you about your child's day. You also want to be sure that the provider is open to feedback from you about your child's care. Some childcare centers even have live camera feeds that parents can monitor throughout the day.

7. What is your starting pay for your staff?

Knowing what a daycare center pays their team can give you an idea of how well they treat their employees. You want people that love their job taking care of your child.

If you are looking for an experienced and caring daycare provider, use these seven questions as a starting point in your search for the perfect daycare provider for your family. If you have any questions, call a local daycare center, such as Kids Kampus Child Care and Early Learning Center.
